WANGANUI EAST CROQUET
THE SEASON OPENED
The official opening of the Wanganui East Croquet Club took place last Wednesday. Mrs. A. E. Halligan, the president, welcomed members and visitors and made reference to the excellent condition of the greens, due to efforts of Mr. A. Black, the caretaker. Thanks were also expressed to the members and friends who had made the card afternoons held during the winter months such a success. Mrs. Halligan was presented with a bouquet by Mrs. Harris. In appreciation of their work for the club, gifts were presented by the president to Mrs. A. B. Currin (hon. secretary) and Mrs. Boodger (tea convener). In wishing members a very happy season, Mrs. Halligan asked Mrs. Harris (vice-president) to run the first ball through the hoop and the 1946-47 season was declared open. Afternoon tea was served. Competitions were held, Mrs. Kerr winning Mis. Drummond s prize for skittles, and the latter winning Mrs. Taylor’s prize for crazy hoops. The skittles were donated to the club by Mrs. Bradshaw. Other competitions were a cake, donated by Mrs. Gower and won by Mrs. Halligan. A table centre donated by Mrs. Harris was won by Mrs. Gilbertson. Mrs. Bradshaw won the competition for Mrs. Taylor's prize.
