For the official opening of the new season there was- a large gathering ot members and friends present at the Wanganui green on Saturday afternoon, The president, Mr. S. J. Goodey, welcomed the guests and relerred to the pleasing appearance of the greent and their surrounds and complimented the green superintendent, Mr. W. J. Stone, and the club’s greenkeeper, Mr. George Mullions, on their excellent work. Respect was paid to the memories of those members who had passed over since the opening of last season, the members observing a moment of silence.

The president called on Mrs Goodey to throw the silver jack and roll the first ball and then wished the mem. bars a very happy season. At the tea interval the members passed a very hearty vote of thanks to Mrs. Goodey and her band of workers who had served the afternoon tea, and to those friends who had given the beautiful flowers to decorate the tables. Play took the form of the usual games by rinks representing the president and vice-president. Although in his home precinct the president held a good lead, the returns from the outer rinks returned n good majority for those representing his opponent, the figures deing: Vice-President, 238; President, 204.
