CHAMPION WAS UNEASY ON STRANGE COURSE
Recd. 7.30 Melbourne, Oct. 6 Eernborough, though not at his best, narrowly headed Attley in the Melbourne Stakes for his fourteenth successive victory. Mulley said that the champion seemed uneasy on the strange course. Attley looked like a winner for a time, but Eernborough outstayed him. He has now equalled Phar Lap’s winning sequence and has won £24,416 in stakes. Results:— Melbourne Stakes (one mile).— Bernborough, 9.8 (Mulley) 1; Attley, 9.5 (Badger), 2; Columnist, 9.0 (Weats), 3. Edward Manifold Stakes (one mile) —Joystream, 8.7 (O’Brien), 1; Amelia, 8.7 (Walliamson), 2; Queen of Fairies, 8.7 (Henry), 3. Nineteen started. Two lengths; three and a-half lengths. Time. 1.401.
Octobr Handicap (11 miles).—Star Act, 7.8 (Preston), 1; Cotham, 7.11 (Gilmore), 2; Meadower (Unkovich), 3. Fifteen started. Three and a-half lengths; head; time, 2.6 S Stand Handicap (1 mile 5 furlongs). —Gallant Gentleman, 8.1 (Unkovich), 1; Knockarlow, 7.3 (Purtell), 2, Arduli, 8.0 (Hutchins), 3. Twenty-five started.
