TARANAKI MAORIS MAKE COMPLAINT TO PRIME MINISTER
(P.A.) New Plymouth, Oct. 6. Claiming that the administration ot the West Coast settlement reserves by the Native Trustee had been harmful to the Maori people of Taranaki, tribal leaders at a conference at Hawera to-day presented to the Prime Minister, Mr. Fraser, a petition from the beneficiaries seeking repeal of section 19 of the Native Purposes Act, 1935, under which it was stated that the annual rentals had been drastically reduced. A clause in the petition called for review by the Government, without delay.
The Primo Minister promised early consideration of the petition, stating that a fair deal for both owners and lessees was required.
