N.Z.’S SOCIAL AND WELFARE SYSTEM COMMENDED TO I.L.O.
Montreal, Sept. 23.
Mr. David Wilson, the New Zealand Government delegate to the International Labour Conference, said he was shocked to see cripples begging for alms in Montreal and other world cities.
‘That used to happen in New Zealand until the advent of the Labour Government, but, thank God it doesn't happen any more,” he said. New Zealand’s system of social and economic security, although not perfect, was such that every person was certain of freedom from want.
Mr. Wilson, expressing disappointment that the conference had decided to wind up on October 9, urged an extension in order to iiermit complete discussion of subjects vital to all the world. He added that New Zealand would continue to give unstinted support to the 1.L.0.
