21 YEARS’ SERVICE IN GIRL GUIDE MOVEMENT MRS. E. M. ANDREWS, OF WANGANUI, HONOURED

A very happy function was held in the Ranger Den last night, when Mrs. E. M. Andrews was the guest of honour at a surprise party Io celebrate her 21 years in the Giri Guide Movement.

On arrival, alter al t ending a Guide Company meeting, Mrs. Andrews was given a greeting by all present, who formed a gua. d of honour in the shape of a trefoil. During the evening the guest of honour was presented with a gold wristlet watch, suitably engraved, and a framed scroll with the names of those present at. the party, and illustrated with a border of Guido pictures, and complete with gold key. Also presented was a special booklet. Made and bound by the committee, the booklet, contains verses, special pages of illustrations and sketches in black and white and in colour, also the names, addresses and congratulatory messages from more than 60 contributors, all of whom have been associated with Mrs. Andrews during the 21 years. Messages were sent from Hamilton, Auckland, Whakatane, Marton, Upper Hutt, Wellington, Dunedin. Gisborne, Masterton, Christchurch, Napier, Balclutha, Palmerston North. One coloured sketch in round formation shows 21 miniature drawings symbolical of Guide activities and in the centre a message of gratitude for services given to the Guide movement by the recipient. Various members of the committee made the presentations and spoke in appreciation of Mrs. Andrews’ work for tne move ment.

Thanking those pi esent for the gifts, Mrs. Andrews said the party was a complete surprise. She told ot various experiences she had had since she first started as a Brownie at. the age of eight years, and gave an ac count of humorous incidents during the Guides’ holiday camp. She also described a visit to Foxlease, the Guide Training Home in England, where she saw Guides of other countries. She thanked them for the appreciation shewn of her work and said she had nothing but happiness since she had joined up and in Guide work in Wanganui and various parts of New Zealand. The Rangers had decorated the den for the occasion.

A special souvenir programme was distributed, and an iced cake took pride of place on the supper table. The programme included games and competitions. Among those present were Misses J. Robb (Palmerston North), Pat Payne (Wellington), Joy Muldrock (Ngutuwera), Constance Beaven (Palmerston North), and Mrs. Higgs, who had seven years' Guiding in Hongkong.

Following the presentations and serving of supper, "Taps” brought the happy party to a close. Arrangements for the celebrations were carried out by a committee of Guiders and Rangers, comprising Misses S. Parker, M. Bradley, B. Clapperton, I. Cook, M. Baker and E. Brown. The party was attended by Guiders and Rangers and special friends.
