N.Z. ATTITUDE TO THE CONTROL OF JAPAN
TASK FOR ALL ALLIES MR. FRASER AGAIN REFERS TO VETO POWER Recd. 9.45 p.m. Washington. Dec. 25. After talking with President Truman and the Assistant Secretary of State (Mr. Dean Adeson), the Prime Minister of New Zealand (Mr. Fraser) told the press that. New Zealand wanted the power to govern Japan transferred from the United States to the Far Eastern Allied Commission, which should be given a policy-making authority. New Zealand would agree to leave the actual administration in Japan entirely to the Americans, but felt the directives should bo the wonc of all the nations concerned, not just one. He would choose General MacArthur as the chief administrator. Mr. Fraser predicted that the “Big Five” veto power on the United Nations’ Organisation Security Council would be eliminated eventually.
