PRE-WEDDING PARTIES

(0.C.) Waitotara, Nov. 24. Miss Nita Laird, whose marriage took place this week, has been tne guest of honour at several parties. The tennis club gave a kitchen tea. The president, Mr. Ross Richardson, in asking Miss Laird to accept, the gifts for her future home, wisned her happiness in her married life. Tne Indoor Sports Club also presented Miss Laird with a gilt. On Monday afternoon there was a very large attendance at a public “Gift ' afternoon. It. was held in the WaitoUra Hall, which had been arranged as a lounge. The conveners were Mesdames E. Leahy, A. Verry and F. Hopkinson. A eornpetition was won by Mrs. E. W. Lee. Several pianoforte solos, by Miss Joan Lee. Songs bv Mrs. Graves (Waverley), and recitations given by Mrs. C. S. Wood were very much enjoyed and received well-merited applause. The delicious afternoon tea was provided by the ladies. Mrs. A. Verry. in asking Miss Laird to accept the gifts from friends and well-wishers, w.shed her much happiness in the future. Miss Laird suitably replied. The parcels, when opened, revealed a large number oi pretty and useful gifts.
