Mrs. M. Parker, o£ Napier, is visiting Wanganui and is staying at Foster’s Hotel. Mi". J. Train, Hawera, lias been visiting Wanganui tor a lew days. Mrs. R. S.< Haybittie and Miss I. Haybittie have been on a lew days’ visit to Wanganui. Miss E. Roche, who recently retired from the position o£ seniorsupervisor, telephone exchange, Hamilton, has returned to her home in Wanganui. Miss Hazel Williams, of Eltham, who is to continue her nursing training in the Wanganui Hospital, was farewelled by the Eltham branch o£ the Voluntary Aid Detachment, o£ which she was section leaner.

HITHER AND THITHER

Red Cross Sewing Circle Mr. and Mrs. A. Duncan entertained the members of the Durie Hill Red Cross Sewing Circle (of which Mrs. Duncan is president!, at afternoon tea yesterday in Dustin's Tearoom, in appreciation of the work accomplished during the year. There are about 40 sewers and knitters in the circle with an average attendance of 25. The president and secretary (Mrs. G. Edwards) paid tributes to the members for their faithful work in this branch of the Durie Hill Red Crosr. There were close on 30 present and they were welcomed on arrival by Mrs. Duncan and Mrs. Edwards. Songs and duets were sung by Mrs. Russell Secular and Miss R. Horrell, with Miss T. Collier as accompanrste.

Guide “Work Day’’ Reminder Saturday next, November 17, is the day set apart lor the Guides of New Zealand to raise £4OOO to equip the five volunteers who are going to Europe to assist the Guide International Service. The Wanganui Guides have arranged a “work day" for Saturday and are willing to do odd jobs at 2s per hour. The public willing to give employment on these terms are asked to phone the number in their own district: Wanganui East, 4097 (Blake); Gonville. 3939 (Parker); Aramoho, 2837 (Burnett); city, 5042 (Isaac); Durie Hill, 5287 (Bradley); Castlecliff, 3047 (Dempster) ; or any Guider. P.W.M.U. Meeting The end of the year gathering of St. Paul’s Presbyterian Women’s Missionary Union took place on Tuesaay in the Church hall, the president. Mrs. A. Caird, presiding. Representatives of missionary groups from district Presbyterian and other churches were present, each giving an outline of missionary work, where the place was situated and by whom the work was run. The missionary box was opened by Mrs. Sinclair and Miss Houston, the contents being over £l7. The Deaconess. Sister Rachel, gave a talk on missionary work in India and also sang a sacred solo. Mrs. A. C. McLean contributed to the programme with a sacred song. A trading stall was in charge of P.W.M.U. members. Musical Evening For Plunket An enjoyable musical evening in aid of the Durie Hill branch of the Plunket Society, end arranged by the president, Mrs. A. J. Burtt, was held recently at the home of Mrs. Russell Secular, Durie Hill. Large bowls and vases of beautiful irises in every shade made gay decoration in the drawing room. There were about 50 present and alf appreciated lhe programme, which comprised songs by Mrs. Secular, Mrs. Darcy Preston, Mrs. Keith Aitken, Mrs. J. Hodges, Mr. J. D. Tizard; violin solos by Mrs. Ray Perkins; elocutionary items, Mr. K. Burtt; pianoforte solos. Miss Collier, who also accompanied the singers. Mrs. Burtt thanked those who had contributed to the profor lending the use of her home for gramme, and thanked Mrs. Scoular the occasion. Members of the committee served a dainty supper. The sum of over £7 was raised.
