CITY’S WAR MEMORIAL
SEVERAL SUGGESTIONS MADE!
Several suggestions for a memorial in Wanganui in honour of men and women who c,ave their lives during World War II came before the Wanganui Citv Council from various organisations last night and were noted for future consideration. The Wanganui branch of the New Zealand Registered Nurses’ Association suggested that the proposed memorial should take the form of either a bridge of remembrance or a hostel for country children wishing to attend schools in the city. Air Force Relations expressed the opinion that the memorial should be something which would benefit the wives and children of servicemen, a residential nursery and a children’s recreational centre being among the suggestions put forward. A town hall, erected on the site of the present Drill Hall, or in that vicinity, was suggested by the Wanganui District Patriotic Committee.
