SEPTEMBER RETURNS FURTHER DECLINE SHOWN A further decline in the volume of the Dominion’s overseas trade in shown in the figures for September, the total of £lO 855,000 comparing with £12,286,000 in August and £12,602,000 in September, 1944. Imports at £4,933,000 were £386,000 lower than those of August and £665,000 below the figure for September of last year. Exports were also lower, falling from £6,967,000 in August to £5,922,000. The export figure for September of last, year was £7,004,000. A favourable trade balance of £989,000 for the month compare.? with an excess of exports of £1,406.000 in the corresponding month of 1944. For the first three months of the export season from July, imports decreased to £15,304.000 from £28,786,000 in the corresponding three months of 1944 a fall of £13.482,000. Exports declined by £2,670,000, this season’s figure being £18,310,000. Following are the values of exports and imports for September in the past five years:— Excess
For the first nine months of the calendar year exports have shown ati increase of £6,466 000 over the corresponding figures of last year, while imports have shown a marked decline, the figure of £41.259,000 for this year comparing with £73,693,000 last year. A favourable balance of £21,204,000 to September this year compares with an excess of imports of £17,696,000 at the same date 12 months ago.
