W.D.F.U. (0.c.) Waitotara, Nov. 8. The October meeting of the W.D.F.U. was held in the supperroom. Mrs. A. Verry presided over a fair attendance of members and two visitors from Patea, Mrs. Haddow and Miss Gillespie. After business had been dealt with, Mrs. J. Laird reported on the provincial committee meeting, which she had attended as Waitotara’s delegate and also spoke of the enjoyable W.D. birthday party held at Wanganui at which she, Mrs. Forcyth and Mrs. N. Verry had been guests. Mrs. Haddow gave a talk on the professorial c'-air. in the postgraduate School of Obstetrics and Gynaecology to be attached to the Auckland Hospital for Women. Miss Gillespie spoke on her experiences and life in England during war years, both speakers were thanked for their most interesting talks. Mrs. Hodgetts and Mrs. Nelson Verry had made the arrangements for the visitors to attend the meeting. Mrs. S. Wilson and Mrs. J. Laird were tea hostesses. Mrs. Mahoney was in charge of the bring-and-buy table. Results of competitions: Best bloom, Mrs. Hodgetts 1; pot of marmalade; Mrs. Handley 1, Mrs. J. Laird 2, Mrs. Mahoney 3. Competitions for November (which will be the last meeting of the year: Best rose and plate of small cakes. FAREWELL FLAG “500.”

Mr. Keith Cubis, who has been on the staff of the local Post Office, and who is leaving on transfer to 1 urangi, was the guest of honour at a card evening arranged by some of the young people. There was a good attendance. The winners were Mr. and Mrs. E. Sandiford, Sylvia Verry, L. Lee and T. Wilson. Before the supper adjournment, Mr. Ross Richardson, speaking on behalf of the farmers, people of the district, Tennis Club and Indoor Sports Club, congratulated Mr. Cubis on his promotion and said all regretted his departure from Waitotara, where he had not only been efficient and obliging in his duties, but had taken an interest in local activities. Mr. Richardson asked Mr. Cubis to accept a wallet and contents from his friends and well-wishers. Mr. Cubis suitably replied. Supper was served by the ladies. Mr. Cubis was also presented with a parting gift from the staff of the Post Office. The postmaster, Mr. Leitch, made the presentation. TENNIS. Mr. Frank Ayling has been elected secretary-treasurer of the Waitotara Tennis Club, Mr. Cubis and Miss N. Laird, respectively, having resigned from those positions.
