MARTON JUNCTION SCHOOL GRANT FOR HEADMASTER’S HOUSE Notification from the Wanganui Education Board that a Government grant had been received for the purchase of a headmaster's house wao received at the monthly meeting of the Marton Junction School Committee. The resignation of Mrs. Hainsworth ai school caretaker, was received with regret, and a letter of thanks for past services is to be sent to Mrs. Hainsworth, expressing hope for a speedy recovery. The headmaster, Mr. Tank, reported that ihe school roll was 146, and the health of the children good. It was decided to forward a letter of sympathy to Mr. H. W. Gudopp in the death of his mother, and members stood in silence as a mark of respect. A letter from the Wanganui Education Board dealing with asphalting at the back of the school was received. Mr. G. RATA MINIATURE RIFLE CLUB Residents of Rata interested in the formation of a miniature rifle club are invited to meet in the Raia Hall on Monday, November 12, at 7.30 p.m. COMBINED R.S.A. QUEEN CARNIVAL The opening dance in connection wirh the combined R.S.A. Queen Carnival will be held in the Turakina Hall to-night (Friday). MARTON BRASS BAND An invitation from Wanganui to take part in a massed bands demonstration on November 25 was discussed at a meeting of the Marton Municipal Brass Band on Tuesday evening, when it was decided that, because of the short notice, it would not be possible to arrange for the band to take part. Individual players, however, would be available to assist any of the hands that were short of players if I the band was notified. As the Marton Brass Band has been l engaged to provide musical programmes at the Marton Jockey Club's 1 race meetings on January 1,2 ano 12, 1946, and also at. the Marton A. and P. Association’s show on January 30, the members will have to attend extra practices in order to keep up their pre-war reputation. “BACK TO CHILDHOOD” DANCE The "Back to Childhood" dance organised by the Victory Hall committee on Wednesday evening attracted an attendance of over 200 dancers. A lair number were attired in their childhood days’ costumes, while many were in their school attire, and they created much amusement witli their antics. Bright music was rendered . Marks’ Orchestra, and during the supper interval extras were played byMrs. K. H. Fowler and Miss pell. Mr. 'Alex Gracie made an efficient M.C. An excellent supper was dispensed by Mesdames F. R. H. Brice, H. L. Glut, |G. Harvey, J. Dallas and A. Knox and Misses Quittendcn, Stafford and Ferens.

On Tuesday, November 20, Ute "Big Shop" will he held in Ward's Molors showroom, Wellington Road, when a number of stalls will he laden with produce, plain and fancy sewing, children's wear, vegetables and mystery parcels. Donations of produce or any articles that can ho disposed of will be thankfully acknowledged and can be loft at. Barton's store. The funds are in aid of the Victory Hall. VICTORY MILK BAR

The Victory Milk Bar is now under the management, of Mrs. Waitere, late of the Broadway Milk Bar. and dainty morning and afternoon teas will be served as well as ice creams, milk shakes, etc.

PLAIN AM) FANCY DRESS DANCE The plain and fancy dress dance to ibe hold in the Victory Hall to-morrow (Saturday) evening, promises to lie a huge success as all Marton is talking about il. Children's dancing will be from 6.30 p.m. Io 9 p.m. and the grand march will take place at 7 p.m. A good programme is set out for children of all schools and ages to lake part in and the generous donation of a guinea to be divided for several spot, and novelty dances is an added attiac-
