WANGANUI BRANCH ANNUAL MEETING The annual meeting of the Wanganui braiXu of the New Zealand Crippled CluirLen Society was held on Thursday night. Dr. G. J. Adams presided over a good attendance. The election of officers resulted:—President, Dr. G. J. Adams, (re-elected); vice-presidents, Hon. W. J. Rogers, M.L.C.. Messrs B. R. Dobbs, F. F. Bethwaite, F. Taiboys, I. Newton, Mrs. H. Christie, Mrs. E. D. Bennett, Mrs. E. M. Scott; committee, Messrs W. S. Steele, E. L. F. Buxton, F. E. Hansel, J. Dash, W. G. Seabrook, Dr. H. L. Widdowson, Mrs. W. S. N. Rennie, Mrs. H. J. Minhinnick, Mrs. E. M. Uttley; radical committee. Dr. G. J. Adams and Dr. H. L. Widdowson; vocational advisory committee, Messrs I. E. Newton, F. H. Bethwaite, W. S. Steele, J. Dash; hon. auditor, Mr. J. C. Small; hon. solicitor, Mr. N. G. Armstrong. The annual report states that 179 cases remained on the register as at March 31, last.

“During the year, Dr. J. K. Cunningham, Travelling Orthopaedic Specialist, of Wellington, conducted three clinics for crippled children when 61 cases were examined. Treatment ordered has been carried out, and throughout the year 11 children have been admitted to Wellington Public Hospital for special treatment. “Weekly* clinics are held at Massage Department, Public Hospital, being supervised by Dr. Widdowson and Mrs. Minhinnick—these clinics have been of the greatest value and assistance. All cases examined and reviewed has received necessary treatment, such as adjustments or making of new splints and the making and repairing of surgical shoes and boots. “We are indebted to Mr. Knight of the boot department. Public Hospital, for his valuable work in the making of surgical footwear for the children in the minimum of time.”

Good work is being accomplished In both the boys’ and girls’ clubs, adds the report. “The sub-branches—Raetihi, Taihape and Marton —continue to take an active interest in the work, and we thank them for what they are doing for the crippled children of the district.” the. report, adds. “Marton has a membership of 127. and thanks are due to Mrs. Young and Mrs. Barton for keeping in touch and visiting the children in their district.” The report acknowledges the generous support given by many friends and organisations which helped materially to brighten the year for crippled children.
