POWER BOARD
CITIZENS HOLD THREE CITY SEATS LABOUR MEMBER DEFEATED. A seat on the Wanganui-Rangitikei Power Board, vacated by Mr. J. J. Scott (Labour), who did not seek reelection, was gained by the Citizens’ Association, which won three ot the four city seats on the board. The only Labour member returned was the Hon. W. J. Rogers, a sitting member, who again topped the pell. Mr. S. J. Harris (Labour), elected ty the board in 1941, was defeated. New members on the Power Board are Messrs. B. R. Dobbs, S. R. McCallum and H. C. Jenkins, all Citizens' Association candidates. Nine nominations, including that of Mrs. J. J. Scott (Labour), were received. One independent, Mr. A. Maras, was also in the field. Mr. H. C. Veitch (Citizens), elected in 1941, is serving overseas and did not contest the seat again. Details are: — *W. J. Bogers (L.) 5924 B. R. Dobbs (C.) 4699 S. R. McCallum (C.) 4653 H. C. Maras (I.) 1561 Rural and borough representatives elected were Mr. F. Purnell, Marton Borough Council, sitting member and chairman of the board for a long period; Mr. A. E. Dalgety (Wanganui County), and Mr. F. J. Gledhiil (Taihape Borough). Mr. Dalgety is a sitting member, but Mr. Gledhiil succeeds Mr. A. M. Ryan, who did not seek re-election. The Waitotara County representative, Mr. W. Morrison, was re-elected on Saturday. The new board will have only one Labour voice, that of Mr. Rogers. It is likely that the chairmanship, which will be decided at the first meeting, will be retained by Mr. Purnell.
