FIVE NEW MEMBERS ELECTED Five new city members were elected to the Wanganui Harbour Board, two sitting members, Messrs. F. O. Bridgej man (Citizens) and G. P. Hawkins I (Labour) being defeated. Citizens gained four of the six seats contested on the board, new members being Messrs. E. A. Millward (Citiizens), H. R. Beauchamp (Citizens), E. J. Kirk (Citizens), J. M. Russell '(Citizens) and J. B. F. Cotterill, M.P. j (Labour). The Hon. W. J. Rogers, M.L.C., chairman for successive periods, again topped the poll, repeating his performance of the 1941 elections. Three members of the board who did not seek re-election were Messrs. J. Robertson (Labour), J. J. Scott (Labour) and J. Patterson (Citizens). Details are:— *W. J. Rogers (L.) 6127 E. A. A. Hogg, both representing the Wanganui County. Mr. Sutherland has already served for a period on the board, succeeding the late Mr. Donald Ross. Mr. Hogg replaces Mr. T. Mitchell, a Wanganui County representative who did not seek re-election. The Waitotara County representatives were elected on Saturday—Mr. W. Morrison and Mr. A. A. Winwood. With a Government nominee on the board (Mr. D. Dwyer, Labour), the Labour Party has three definite votes against eight anti-Labour. Chairmanship of th e board will be the first, matter to be decided when the new board meets. Mr. Rogers is the present chairman.
