AMERICAN GIFT OF BOOKS

In a practical demonstration of international goodwill and co-opera-tion, the American Red Cross has given a substantial consignment of books and periodicals to the New Zealand Y.M.C.A# for Middle East libraries and mobile canteens. Mr. Glen A. Whisler, on behalf of the director, Mr. Ralph Bains, said: “We are glad to be able to share this reading matter with you and we know that New Zealand troops will enjoy it.” The consignment included 2300 “Readers' Digests,” 1700 Penguin books, 1200 magazines, and an assortment of other periodicals. This is not the first time the American Red Cross has generously supplied reading matter in such quantity. A few months ago the New Zealand Red Cross received thousands of books, magazines, and general reading material, which has long since been distributed to the troops. ______
