PATEA BOXING
TOURNAMENT RESULTS. A successful boxing tournament was held at Patea this week, proceeds being for addressed parcels for Patea men serving overseas. The Mayor, Mr. F. Ramsbottom, presented trophies. Results of the bouts are:— Collins (Stratford) beat Glass (Stratford), both giving a good exhibition. H. CaeSsgton (Stratford) beat I. Hills patea), proving too rugged for Hills. The bout .was stopped in the third round. J. Crombie (Eltham) beat L. Fleming (Rahotu) on points in an even and willing contest. O. Cooper (Patea) beat B. Blanchard (Stratford). This was one of the best bouts, Cooper winning by a narrow margin with cleaner hitting. W. Smith (Rahotu) beat R. Marsh (Stratford) in an bright and willing bout. D. Willis (Patea) beat T. McDowell (Stratford) in a good contest. Willis made a great recovery in the last round. W- Jones (Stratford) beat C. Kaitonga (Patea), the bout being stopped in the third round.
J. Kasper (Eltham) beat J. Mullally (Patea) by a narrow margin in a hard-hitting contest. D. Bourke (Patea) beat W. Fleming (Rahotu) in a line bout. E. Collins (Stratford) beat E. Parker (Stratford) in a bright contest. T. Magon (Rahotu) beat J. Couchman (Eltham) in a dull contest, both boxing cautiously. C. Philpott (Eltham) beat N. Goodwin (Stratford' in one of the best bouts of the evening. Both mixed it freely, with Philpott a little more aggressive and winning by his experience.
J. Stanners (Eltham) beat R. Wigmore (Patea) in a bright contest, with Wigmore covering up a good deal on the ropes. Special awards were: Scientific boxed, O. Cooper (Patea); novice loser, special prize, T. McDowell (Stratford); novice loser, Kaiotonga (Patea); special loser's prize, J. Mullalley (Patea).
