D.F.C. WON BY WANGANUI AIRMAN

Advice that her youngest son, PilotOfficer John H. Verrail, R.N.Z.A.F., has been awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross, has been received l y Mrs. Al. Verrail, ol Somme Parade, Wanganui. Born in London in 1921, Pilot-Officer Verall came to New Zealand with his parents when a few years old. He attended the Aramoho Primary School and received his secondary education at the Wanganui Technical College. On leaving school he joined the NewZealand Railway Department as a cadet in Wanganui. Keen on rowing. Pilot-Officer Verrail was a valued member of the Aramoho Boating Club, and won many prizes for trophy racing. He went overseas in 1941 as ser-geant-pilot and won commissioned rank in July of this year. He has been an several operational flights over enemy territory. He is now an instructor in England.
