FISH PLENTIFUL

REPORT TO WAIMARINO SOCIETY (0.C.) Raetihi, Nov. 16. Some recent catches of lish, including some live and a-half pounders taken from the Makara River, and a six-poundei’ from the Whakapapa River, were referred to at the monthly meeting ol' the Waimarino Acclimatisation Society held recently. In reply to an enquiry by the society, tne secretary of the Wellington Acclimatisation Society notilied that no fishing licences had been Issued by them at rates below the usual 30s charge. It was reported that several men from Waiouru had approached the society for a reduction in the fishing fee, stating that Wellington had given them this concession.

In reporting on the completion of the Mangawhero deviation, Mr Heise stated that he considered the position to be now satisfactory as all the normal flow was finding its way through the new cut. Messrs. Goodman and Henderson reported having visited the job but a rise in the stream was spilling a fair quantity down the old bed. It was not considered possible at the present time to build a substantial wall to completely cut off the old course.

The secretary reported that a resident of Makaranui had trapped some Paradise ducks and had kept them penned in a small enclosure after having cut. their wing feathers. His action in taking the preliminary steps for a prosecution was endoiked by the meeting.
