SHARP DROP IN VALUES AT ADDINGTON

(P.A.) Christchurch. Nov. 17. There was a sharp easing in practically all classes of meat at Addington to-day. The main cause was the heavy entry. A big proportion of the spring lamb penning was passed, the remainder selling at a drop of 6s to 8s on last week. Sheep.—The entry of 1800 included first of the season hill wethers from Marlborough. There was a small attendance of buyers and the sale was dragging for all classes. The best price for wethers was 26s 3d for local two-tooths. A line of 100 Marlborough two-tooths made 24s 6d, 158 fourtooths 21 6d and the balance.from 18s 6d to 19s 3d. The demand for hoggets was weaker, a line of 304 ewes being passed in. at 345. Shorn ewe hoggets were also passed "■ in at 24s 6d. Good ewes and lambs sold well, one pen making 245, all counted, but medium sheep showed a drop. Fat Sheep.—An entry of about 5000, practically all shorn. In sympathy with the drop in beef and lamb there was a decided easing from the outset and this continued throughout. Best quality sheep showed a decline of from 3s to 4s a head, while there was a bigger drop for medium and lighter sheep. The highest price for wethers was 47s 7d and for ewes 38s 7d. Shorn hoggets sold up to 37s Id. Fat Cattle.—An entry of 602. against 411 last week. The sale was erratic, opening weakly and firming slightly over the concluding stages, but on the average the drop ranged from 30s to 70s. Best beef made 70s per 1001 b, good 54s to 58s, medium and plain 48s to 535. Best heifer beef made 53s to 58s, good to 52s 6d, ordinary to 475.
