AIR VICE-MARSHAL GODDARD

Recd. 6 p.m London, Sept. 29. Air Vice-Marshal R. V. Goddard, who was Chief of the Air Staff of the R.N.Z.A.F. since 1941. has .been appointed Air Officer Commanding the Administration at Air Headquarters in India.

Air Vice-Marshal Goddard, Who is 46, has been in the Royal Air Force ever since its formation. Educated at the Rcyal Naval Colleges at Osborne and Dartmouth, he was attached to the Royal Naval Air Service (Airship Section) in May, 1915. He was on airship duties until 1918 with The Grand Fleet and also with the British Expeditionary Force in France. He graduated in aeronautical engineering at Cambridge and London in 1924, and passed through the Staff Colleges ot Andover and Greenwich in 1929 and 1934. In 1939 Air Vice-Marshal Goddard was appointed Deputy-Director of Intelligence and was later the Chief of Staff of the Air Component at British General Headquarters in France. More recently he was Director of Military Co-operation at the Air Ministry. His appointment as Chief of the Air Staff in New Zealand was announced Ln September, 1941. In August of last year he went 1o Washington for consultation on joint war efforts in the South Pacific. He relinquished his post with the R.N.Z.A.F. when his term of loan expired in July this K.ear, and returned to England.
