NO PROVISION YET
AUSTRALIAN OFFICE IN N.Z.
Reed. 6.30 p.m. Sydney, Sept. 30. No provision is made in the Budget presented to Parliament yesterday tor the establishment ot an Australian Hish Commissioner's office in New Zealand, says the Canberra correspondent of the Daily Telegraph. The New Zealand High Commissioner, Mr. C. A. Berendsen, was appointed several months ago, and there has been considerable comment in Canberra over the Australian. Government's failure to reciprocate. Exchange of diplomatic representation is usually practically simultaneous. The new Estimates, however, while providing for expenditure on all other Australian legations abroad, makes no mention of New Zealand. Tlie Prime Minister (Mr. Curtin) said that the non-appearance of the New Zealand post in the Estimates Was not significant. No appointment had yet been made, so it was unnecessary to make provision for expenditure.
