MAORI PREPARATIONS FOR NEXT WEEK (P.A.) Gisborne, Sept. 30. The Maoris are lavishly preparing for the Victoria Cross investiture ceremony at Ruatoria next Wednesday, when the decoration won by Lieut. Ngarimu will be presented by the Governor-General to the parents of the dead officer. The morning will be devoted to a welcome by the Nagtiporou te Wha-nua-a-Apanui and associated tribes to Sir Cyril Newall and party and also the Prime Minister. A feature will be a welcome by 1000 children forming the letters "V.C.” The welcoming speech will be given by Mrs. Materoa Reedy, aunt of Lieut. Ngarimu and the only woman to address Lord and Lady Bledisloe on the Waitangi marae in 1934. The reply will be given by the Governor-General. In the afternoon a service will be conducted by Bishop Bennett and an address by an elder of the Ringatu Church. An address will be given by the Prime Minister, and after he delivers his address the Governor-Gen-eral will invest Hawuera Ngarimu. father of the late Lieutenant Ngarimu, with the V.C.
