TORCH BATTERIES

(P.A.) Wellington, Aug. 27. The Minister of Supply, Hon. D. G. Sullivan, stated to-day that the shortage of torch batteries during the winter had been due to the shortage of certain materials overseas as local manufacturers could not supply New Zealand’s demands. Imported material had now arrived and a local factory was endeavouring to meet as rapidly as possible the present shortage. The armed services would have to be supplied first, but substantial releases would be made to the public next, month, after which the position would return to normal.
