POLITICAL CAMPAIGN
STARTING IN EARNEST NEXT WEEK Political campaigns in the Wanganui and Rangitikei electorates will begin in earnest next week. Halls have been booked by various Candidates contesting seats at the forthcoming general election and several meetings have been arranged. In the Wanganui electorate, Mr. E. J. Kirk, National candidate, will open his campaign in the Opera House on September 2 Mr. Will Appleton, National candidate for Wellington Central, will b<? the guest speaker. In support of the official Labour candidate, Lieutenant J. C. Cotterill, M.P., the Minister of Health, Hon. A. H. Nordmeyer, will deliver a -public address on the night of Saturday, September 4. Mr. E. B. Gordon, MJ’.. National candidate for Rangitikei, will also address several meetings next week, the principal one being’ in the Civic Theatre, Marton, on September 2. Most, of the meetings so far hold by candid: 'es have been for friends and supporters. Mr. R. O. C. Marks, Real Democracy Movement candidate for the Wanganui electorate, has already addressed meetings and opens his campaign proper in the Opera House on Tuesday, September 7. Lieutenant Cotterill speaks in the Opera House on the following Thursday. The Prime Minister, Rt. Hon. P. Fraser, will spend about an hour at Kai Iwi next Wednesday, when he will address a representative gathering of Maoris. He is expected to arrive at Kai Iwi about noon and before his departure will be presented with an illuminated address. Mr. Fraser was to have viisted Wanganui in the course of his election tour, but because the day clashed with the close of Wanganui’s special patriotic campaign, he decided to cancel his address.
