SURVEY PROMISED
TUNNEL UNDER LYTTELTON HILL CP.A.) Parliament Bldgs., Aug. 26. A promise that a survey would he made of the possibility of constructing a road tunnel between Christchurch and Lyttelton was made by the Prime Minister, the Rt Hon. Fraser, to-day, after hearing a reputation which asked for the construction of such a tunnel as rehabilitation work in the immediate postwar period. The deputation, which consisted of representatives of all Christchurm local bodies, the trades council and the Lyttelton Waterside Workers’ Union, was heard by Mr. Fraser, the Minister of Works, the Hon. R. Semple, the Minister of Industries and Commerce, the Hon. D. G. Sullivan, the Minister of Finance, tho Hon. W. Nash, and the Minister of Rehabilitation. Major C. F. Skinner It was stated by a member of the deputation that, the project would have cost £480,000 in 1930, and Mr. Fraser in reply said the project appealed to him. _
