TRANSFER OF MEAT WORKS
MINISTER REPLIES TO REMIT FROM FARMERS
“You may rest assured that in dealing with this matter the Government will give due consideration to the interests of New Zealand producers and also to those of shareholders,” stated the Minister of Agriculture, Hon. J. G. Barclay, in reply to a remit concerning the transfer of freezing works. The remit was submitted by the Farmers’ Federation recently, and a copy of the Minister’s reply was received at lhe monthly meeting yesterday of the Wanranut Provincial Executive of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union.
In its remit, the Farmers’ Federation strongly' supported the Meat Board in its opposition to the transfer of the licence of certain New Zealand meat works to a foreign company. The federation looked to the Meat Board to do everything possible to protect the interest of producers. “The matter is still under discussion and I can give your federation no indication of what the final outcome will be,” the Minister added in his reply.
