FARM WORKERS’ WAGES
HIGHER PRICES SUGGESTED FOR PRODUCE The cpinion that prices of primary products should be increased to enable farmers to pay wages more in keeping with those in other industries was expressed at the monthly meeting yesterday of the Wanganui Provincial Executive of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union Because of the higher wages paid in other industries, it was stated, difficulty was experienced in obtaining labour for farms. One farmer commented that he knew of a youth aged 19, who was earning £5 and would not return to his father’s farm, where the wages would be smaller. The union decided to make further inquiries on the question of farm wages.
