SPECIAL TRAM SERVICES
NEW YEAR’S EVE TRAFFIC Preparations for a busy New Year’s Eve have been made by the Wanganui Corporation Tramways. Anticipating that many people will follow the time-honoured custom of coming into the city to-night, special cars will supplement ordinary services. Extra cars will also be provided for peak periods during the day, principally between one and two o’clock in the afternoon and from 4 p.m. onward. On New Year's Eve last year the tramway revenue for the day totalled £173, a figure which the authorities expect to reach to-day. As on Christmas Eve, every available tram will be in operation. The effective rolling stock includes two of the old two-man type of cars. The traffic superintendent, Mr. G. R. Holmes, said yesterday that loadings had been heavy all this week. Many people visited Castlecliff Beach on Monday and Tuesday. Provided sufficient people travel the holiday services will be operated between the city and Castlecliff on New Year’s Day and again on Saturday. The holiday time-table makes provision for cars at 20-rninute intervals from 9 a.m. onward.
