NEW CRICKET SEASON

WANGANUI CLUB MEETING The Wanganui Cricket Club will enter one team in the senior competition this year. This decision was reached at the annual meeting on Thursday. Mr. F. E. Smith (vicepresident) presided. The annual report stated that the club had a successful season, winning the senior championship. The batting averages were headed by J. S. D. Tizard, H. B. Cave, G. A. Thrush, J. K. Glover and W. H. Bickley. Most successful bowlers were D. Hughes, W. S. Thrush and D. McCarthy. E. A. Neale scored a century in one game. The Henderson Memorial Cup for the best fieldsman was awarded to H. B. Cave. A successful reunion of “old timers” was held during the winter, past players attending or sending greetings not ow from Wanganui but also from all parts of New Zealand. Because of petrol restart ions the annual game with Raetihi cov’d not be played, but the elub paid vi./’s to Hawera, Ohakea, and Palmerston North. During the winter a brief history of the club had been written. The report expressed sympathy with the relatives of the late Mr. W. J. Treadwell (patron of the Wanganui Cricket Association) and a vice-presi-dent of the club, who died during the year, AV. Joyce (a member of the club, who was killed while on active service with the Air Force), L. Connor (Technical Old Boys), who was killed in action with the Second N.Z.E.F., and W. L. Kauter (United), who is missing on service with the Air Force). The election of officers resulted:— Patron, Mr. G. S. Gordon (re-elected); president, Mr. A. N. Cave (re-elected); vice-presidents, Messrs. R. E. Cuthbertson. G. Thrush, senr., F. E. Smith, J. Coull, O. J. W. Green, and Mr. F. B. Lance; secretary, Mr. N. A. Lowe; treasurer Mr. W. S. Thrush; management committee, Messrs. W. H. Bickley, J. S. D. Tizard, and J. K. Glover; delegates to the Wanganui Cricket Association. Messrs. W. H. Bickley and J. K. Glover.
