FOXTON RACES AT OTAKI PROSPECTS FOR TO-DAY In spite of the fact that the meeting will be adversely affected by petrol and rail restrictions and wet weather, the Foxton Racing Club is likely to have good fields for its meeting to-day on the Otaki course. Eight events are carded and the fields are of very even quality. Betting will be win-and-place and the first race is at 12.15 p.m. The usual large field will contest the Trial States, but there will be no need for divisions. Arctic Night stands out on the strength of her close second to Jonathan Jo at Marton last Saturday. Ring Scarf and Pedantic will be dangerous. Colossal Chief and Siglow stand out in the weak Paiaka Hurdles field. Among the hack sprinters in the Motuiti Hack Handicap, Deolali, Straight Left and War Credit make most appeal. The Carnarvon Handicap field will be the weaker through the absence of Battledress. This will probably leave Classform, Duncannon and Sanction to carry the money. Lady Virginia may be expected to make amends in the Wharangi Hack for her Marton defeats. Deolali (if started), Gunyah and Straight Left are others in which interest will be displayed. On ‘form at the Wanganui meeting Moutoa Bond is likely to be extended by Vivid Night and Star Zone. For the distance event, the Awahou Hack Handicap, Sea Quex. Red Chief and Kinsman may be expected to show up. The day’s racing will close with a scamper over five furlongs, and it looks as if Arctic Night, Tetratina and Pedantic will be prominent. The fields are as follow: — 12.15 TRIAL STAKES, £lOO ; Six Furlongs.
