AIR VICTORY SHARED

N.Z. SQUADRON-LEADER AM) RHODESIAN PILOT London, Sept. 23. Squadron-Leader D. Carlson, D.F.C.. of the Waikato, shared with a Rhodesian sergeant-pilot his squadron’s first victory when he shot down a Focke-Wulf 190. “We were escorting Hurricane bombers attacking St. Omer,” said Carlson, “when I spotted two enemy machines coming head on, slightly over us. The sergeant and I pulled up our noses and had a burst at. the nearer one, and saw flames spurt from the cockpit and engine. After another pilot saw it spiral down in flames.” Carlson's squadron took part in the Dieppe raid. He said: “We were unlucky in not seeing many of the enemy. We did spot one Dornier 117,' and nine of us fired at it, whereupon it crashed."
