FAREWELL AND PRESENTATION
SOCIAL EVENING AT OKOIA A very enjoyable evening was spent recently in me Okoia Hall to farewell Mr. and Mrs. J. Phillpolts. The hall was crowded, which testified to me popularity or. the guests of the evening. Mr. and Mrs. Phillpolts have resided in Okoia lor the past 14 years. Mr. Phillpolts has been .stationmaster, but owing to ill-health he has had to relinquish his duties. The evening was spent in dancing and items. One oi. tne songs was very appropriately worded to suit the occasion and was sung to an old tune. Mr. and Mrs. Phiilpotts were then escorted to the stage, accompanied by their daughter, Nurse Phillpolts, oi Hastings, who came over especially for the occasion. Mrs. Phillpotts was presented with a. bouquet, Nurse Philipotts with a shoulder spray and Mr. Philipotts a buttonhole. Mr. W. P. Jones spoke feelingly of the loss to the district of Mr. ana Mrs. Philipotts’ departure and presented to them a cheque on behali of the Okoia district residents, wishing them all the best in their retirement. Mr. D. McGrail and Mr. J. Brandon also spoke. “For They are Jolly Good Fellows” was then sung, after which Mr. Philipotts, on behalf of his wife, thanked all for their good wishes and kind remarks. He said how sorry they were to leave, as the happiest years ol their life were spent in Okoia. Miss Philipotts also returned thanks to the people for the way they had honoured her parents. At tne close of the evening “Auld Lang Syne” was sung.
