RAID ON BATAAN
JAPANESE REPULSED ENEMY’S SUDDEN ATTACK (By Telegraph—Press Association —Copyright.) (Recd. 11.5) Washington, March 17 A communique states: “In the Philippine theatre, after several days’ inactivity, the enemy launched a sudden raid on our lines at Bataan. This attack was easily repulsed by General Wainwright’s troops. Our harbour defences were heavily shelled for several hours from the Cavite shore, resulting in only slight damage. A Japanese destroyer shelled Port Cebu for a brief period but no damage was done.”
