MINISTER’S ACTION CONFISCATION OF NEWSPAPERS. London, March 16. There is an outcry in Sweden against the action of the Minister of Justice in confiscating 17 Swedish newspapers for publishing reports about German horrors in Norway, and the Minister of Justice has been asked for an explanation by a member of the Swedish Parliament. One Stockholm newspaper speaks of the incredible horrors being inflicted in Norwegian prisons in an attempt to extort information, and another leading newspaper says that Norway must not. be abandoned. The protest of the No’v. n bishops against Quisling's anti-. al action has resulted in the forma', Nil of a united front of all the Christian denominations in the country, and a large meeting protested against the anti-religious campaign. At Trondheim people have been barred from the cathedral, and the united clergy hire the largest cinema for a joint service every Sunday. Quisling now threatens the churches with the withdrawal of public funds, and that the churches will he closed. Those who protest are threatened with penal servitude. Food rationing as been reduced in Norway. A news agency message from Stockholm reports that German soldiers passing through Sweden on leave from northern Norway have been ordered back t.o Norway. DEANS DISMISSED ( Hl RCH CRISIS IN NORWAY. London. March 15. The deans attached to the seven Norwegian bishops whom the Nazis removed from office have also been summarily dismissed, says the Stockholm correspondent of The Times. Their dismissal followed their refusal to take up the functions of the bishops. Quisling empowered the Church Department to install other clergymen within the dioceses, and seven obscure vicars were appointed.
