SCOUT LEADERS WANTED
URGENT NEED IN WANGANUI The appeal made by the Wanganui Roy Scouts’ Association during the recent Scout Week for more scouters or leaders to take the place of thosecalled into the armed forces did not receive the response it warranted, said the assistant District Commission of Boy Scouts in Wanganui. Mr. C. W. Baker, yesterday. Only one man offered his services as a scouter in Wanganui as a rosu.t of the appeal, whereas in most other centres the result had been good. “In spite of compulsory enrolment there must, be many men in Wanganui suited for the work but not eligible for military training. II is not doing justice to the boys or their parents if leaders cannot be provided to train them in the important work of scouting," said Mr. Baker. "The appeal for more Scouts was good, and more Scout troops could be formed in Wanganui if leaders were available," he concluded.
