PARLIAMENT MEETS TO-DAY
A MODIFIED OPENING EFFECT OF WAR ATMOSPHERE Although details have yet to be completed, inquiries yesterday indicated that the ceremonial opening of the new session of Parliament to-day. called for the special purpose of considering the war situation, is likely to be modified in some respects. His Excellency, the Governor-Gen-eral, Sir Cyril Newall, will not be attended by the usual escort representing the three fighting services, and Her Excellency will not be present. Another departure will be that ladies will not be provided with seats on the floor of the Legislative Council Chamber. Wives of the Speakers, lhe wife of the Prime Minister and former Prime Ministers’ wives and wives of Ministers will be seated in the galleries. Those on the floor of the House will be lhe High Commissioner for the United Kingdom, Sir Harry Batterbee, lhe High Commissioner lor Canada, Dr. Riddell, and probabL members of the judiciary. His Excellency the Governor-Gen-eral to-day presided at a meeting of the Executive Council.
