SICCESSFVL EVENING SPORTS The Marton Athletic Club was fortunate in having ideal weather last night for its opening sports meeting in the Marton Park. With the assistance of athletes and cyclists from Ohakea Aerodrome and Wanganui the racing was most interesting and the visitors were successful in most of the events. The events were run off to schedule and the management was well conducted under the leadership of their newly-elected president, Mr. C. Stafford, while Mr. G. Benson, of Wanganui, acted as broadcaster. The Oihakea team was very prominent in most of the running events, G. Midgley winning the 100 and 220 yards handicaps and J. McDonald the half and mile handicaps. G. Pidwell, of Wanganui, won the mile cycle and W. Pidwell, of Wanganui, the twomile cycle, whilst J. Simpson (Marton* won the half-mile cycle handicap. Mr. C. Henderson was in his usual position as handicapper and starter, and Messrs. A. Gracie, K. Coles and A. Head held the tape.
