BROADCASTING IN WARTIME
STATIONS TO CEASE IN EVENT OF AIR ATTACK (Press Assn.) Wellington. Dec. 10. Inquiries were made to-day as to whether New Zealand would be likely to follow the procedure adopted by the radio broadcasting systems of the Pacific Coast this week of ceasing to transmit when it is feared enemy aircraft are approaching. It was stated in reply that New Zealand listeners should be prepared for complete cessation of broadcasting should any attack from the air upon this country appear imminent. A question was also raised of the possibility of New Zealand adopting the British plan of synchronising one broadcasting programme from a number of stations, so that the enemy would be deprived of separate wavelengths. the origin of which could be identified. It was learned that this question is being gone into with technical experts. BROADCASTS FROM THE HOUSE SOME RESTRICTION LIKELY. In the exceptional circumstances it is quite possible there might be some restriction on the Parliamentary broadcasting. The Governor-General’s Speech from the Throne at the opening of the new session to-day will be broadcast in the ordinary way. The Speaker of the House exercises control over what goes over the air. cutting off members whenever there is any danger of their giving any Information which might be useful io the enemy.
