WAIPUKURAU RACE STAND BURNT
THIRD FIRE IN 15 MONTHS I JOCKEY CLUB’S HEAVY LOSS [ Per Preaa Association. ] WAIPUKURAU, Feb. 25. In the third fire within 15 months the main grandstand on the Wa-ipu. kurau Jockey Club's Racecourse was gutted early to-day. Hampered by lack of water and in view of the flames having a strong hold when discovered the lire brigade had no possible chance of saving the building. Loss to the club is severe, as the totalisator was destroyed by fire two days before the Christmas meeting in 1939, while the grandstand was a large building which had been modernised. A special meeting of stewards will decide the steps to be taken affecting the Easter meeting of the club, in a fortnight's time. Police are investigating the outbreak. Insurances on the buildings and contents were £3BlO. i
