OBITUARY

MRS. MARGARET DOLE. News has been received of tne death at Victoria, British Columbia, on Sunday, of Mrs. Margaret Cole, widow ol the late Ven. R. H. Cole, formerly Archdeacon of Taranaki. Mrs. Cole, whose maiden name was Hamilton, belonged to a Quebec family very well known in Anglican Church circles in Canada. She came to New Zealand with her husband in 1902 and resided in Auckland for about 10 years. They later went to Europe, but returned to the Dominion some four years ago and lived in Hawke’s Bay until the archdeacon’s death in 1937. Mrs. Cole and two of her three daughters left Auckland early in June for Canada, with the intention of visiting relatives and then proceeding to England. MR. A. C. MOIR.

A leading settler of the southwestern area of Waitomo County, Mr. Alexander Carr Moir, died suddenly while playing 'golf on his farm at Mahoenui. Mr. Moir, who was 63 years of age, was a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. George Moir, early settlers in the Eltham district. After doing much pioneering work elsewhere, Mr. Moir took up a large tract of virgin land at Mahoenui and converted it into one of the finest farms in the King Country. Mr. Moir is survived by his wife, two sons and four daughters. MR. GORDON LEAKING. Collapsing in the roadway shortly after vaulting a fence, Mr. Gordon Learning, of Mount Roskill, a wellknown figure in Auckland wrestling administration, and deputy-printer of the Auckland Star, died suddenly on Tuesday morning. Mr. Learning, who was 41, was born at Onehunga, and received his education at the Seddon Memorial Technical College. He is survived by his wife and a four-year-old son.
