The final date for this round is the 16th. inst, HURN CUP MATCH RAPANUI CHALLENGE NARROW WIN FOR ST. JOHN'S A Rapanui rink made a bold bid yesterday to take the Hurn Cup away from St. John's, and the result was in doubt until the last bowl was played. The teams were: — Rapanui.—A. Handley, B. Willis, F. Handley, G. Handley. St. John’s. —H. S. Harris, Rowling, Glover, Benefield. Rapanui had the best of the opening play, leading <2 —3 on the 6tlj, anti 13—5 on the 9th. ends, their score including a 7 on the sth. end, George Handley running the "saving” St. John’s bowl off. The challengers increased their lead with a brace of 2’s on the 11th. and 12th. ends to 17—8. St. John’s then "came to light,” •scoring 1,4, 2 on the 13th, 14th and 15th ends, Rapanui scoring a 2 on the 16th end, making the score 19—15 in the visitors’ favour. The 17th. end was a bad one for Rapanui, St. John’s scoring 6 on a fairly wide end, putting them ahead 21—19. Rapanui evened up the score on the 18th. end, and St. John’s secured a 1 and 3 on the next two ends, leaving them ahead —25 to 21. The final end saw the visitors score 3, with a possibility of obtaining a win with the last bowl which. just failed in Its object.
