( ENTEXNTAL J UX( ! lOX There were a thousand dancers at the New Zeaalnd Centennial Ball held in the Assembly Hall at. the exhibition on Friday night. Their Excellencies, the Governor-General, Viscount Galway and Viscountess Galway, were unable to at I end. From the biightly-lit entrance foyer that featured cream walls and striking murals by Russell Clark, including a painting ol the depatfute of the Tory from England, they passed into the main assembly hail, where the colour scheme was again cream, relieved in places with bands of blue-grey and red. Huge parchment lights of unusual design threw soft lights in every direction and added to that was the unusual indirect, lighting panel in the centre of the ceiling tt;a<. derived its illumination from no lower than 1000 globes. On the stage was was seated the dance band, whose music was one of the brilliant highlights of the ball. Between dances those present tool; the opportunity of wandering out on Io the balcony that overlooked C: ntennial Avenue which resembled fairyland with its eve,-changing ftood-light-Builei icl'icshmeiiLs were sewed m adjoining rooms, and a banquet supper was served in a beautifully decorated supper room.
