The return to a cheap money rej gime by the lowering of the Bank of England rate to 2 per cent, within two months of the outbreak of war is regarded as a remarkable' demonstration of the effectiveness of the new technique of financial control. The first instalment of the war loan may be delayed for some weeks as the rise in gilt-edged securities has not yet lowered yields enough to make the Issue sufficiently attractive. Dominion issues have benefited from the improvement in gilt-edged securities.
