ARAMOHO CENTRE GARDEN CIRCLE AFTERNOON Mrs. Gould presided over the Aramoho Women’s Institute, held on October 12. Members of the Garden Circle had decorated the hall most effectively for the occasion. Apologies were received from the secretary, Mrs. McNeil, and .Mrs. Davis, on account of illness. Miss Young, who was preset for the first time since her serials accident 12 months ago, was warmly welcomed by the president and members. The minutes were read and confirmed, correspondence dealt with, and financial reports and circle reports received. Instructions wen. given to the delegate for the halfyearly council meeting. Parcels were received for the Porirua appeal. It was announced that a “bring and buy” stall for the Jubilee Home is to be held at the November meeting. New members were received. Tne president read a post card from Mrs. J. Butler, a member of the Aramcho Institute, who is visiting England. The meeting was then taken over by Mrs. White, convener of the garden circle, who provided the social part of the afternoon. An interesting talk was given by Mr. Todman, whose subject was on gardens, what to plant, the best methods of planting, and he also gave much useful information on fertilisers and sprays. The'afternoon’s programme included musical items by Mrs. Freda Cunningham, and a parade of ’cos.umc oi yesterday’’ by members of tne garden circle. Some beautiful old v l osses and costumes, some of them many years old, were displayed. A demonstration on arranging a bunch of Howers, was given by airs. F. Carpenter, who then presented me ! flowers Lo Miss Young, who was also recorded musical honours. Miss Young replied and thanked the members lor their wonderful kindness to her during her long illness. The* roll call, Garden pests and how to com sat them,’’ brought forth many remedies. The competitions and winners were: Bowl of bulbs: Mrs. Moreland 1, Mrs. Litchfield 2. Ranunculus: Mrs. J. Goss 1, Mrs. Gilford Moore 2 Anemones: Miss Rooke 1, Mrs. Spooner 2. Cheese scones: Mrs. Moreiand 1, airs. Booth 2. Afternoon tea and the National Anthem closed another interesting and colourful garden circle afternoon.
