Pipe Band Entertained Members of the Wanganui Highland Pipe Band were entertained at supper at their weekly practice night last evening by the president, Mr. A. McSkimming. Arainoho Boating Club. The Aramoho Boating Club will hold its annual presentation of trophies in the clubhouse on Saturdaynight at a dance and social evening. The annual dinner will be held the following Saturday night. The third fifteen of the Wanganui Technical College, which plays in the Wanganui Rugby Union’s fifth-grade competitions, defeated a team from the Marton District High School yesterday afternoon by six points to three. The game was played on a heavy ground and during the progress of the match there were showers of rain. There was little between the respective teams. The College team has an unbeaten record this season. Territorials Parade. At the invitation of the management of the Regent Theatre, the officers, non-commissioned officers and men of lhe Wellington West Coast Regiment attended the theatre last night, mainly to see a feature entitled “The Warning,’’ dealing with Great Britain's precautions against air-raids. Eleaded by the regimental band, and under charge of Captain H. J. Dalzell, a total of 180 of all ranks marched from the Drill Hall to the theatre. Amateurs Apr Professionals. Hair pulling, kicking, and a host of other fortes of the professional matman were resorted to by two amateur wrestlers who provided one of the preliminary bouts at the Opera House last night. The contestants were Kappa Hogg and Peter Wiwi and they entered into the spirit of the bout with enthusiasm. Drop kicks and flying tackles were frequently resorted to and both men showed a good knowledge of showmanship which put the crowd in a good humour for the professional bout. Urban Farm Lands. Removal of an area of land formerly owned by the Parkes Estate, St. John’s Hill, from the urban farm lands roll of the city of Wanganui was authorised by the City Council on Tuesday night. This land has been purchased by the Government for State housing and, having ceased to be farm land within the city, will become liable for rates. Certain other areas on the list have become eligible for and the list, by resolution of the council, is to be suitablyamended. Sheep Farming Industry. It is not known definitely whether the Royal Commission appointed to inquire into the sheep farming industry will sit in Wanganui. It has been pointed out to the chairman of the 0 Commission, Sir Francis Frazer, that H Wanganui is the centre of one of the \ most important sheep farming localiv ties in the Dominion, and Raetihi is d the centre of a district vitally cons cerned with hill country farming, f which will form an important part of n the commission’s work.
