MAJESTIC THEATRE

“FOUR’S A CROWD” Large audiences continue to throng he Majestic Theatre, where the ( might modern comedy “Four’s a 1 Jrowd” is at present being screened. 1 Dhe main roles are taken by Errol ; ?lynn, Olivia de Havilland, Rosalind ' Lussell and Patrie Knowles. The plot ! ■evolves round a modern newspaper i )liice, with which the main characters < ire all intimately connected. Errol ' ?]ynn plays the managing editor, who j s courting both a girl reporter (Rosa- i ind Russell) and the proprietor’s - [Patrie Knowles) vivacious fiancee 1 .Olivia de Havilland), who is heiress i to her grandfather’s millions. Her grandfather (Walter Connolly) has i mly one objective—-to keep both his ' granddaughter and his money. Amus- : ng complications follow. “White Banners” Magnificent, acting by the leading . players and a story that is taken . from life itself make “White Banners,” which will open its Wanganui ' season at the Majestic Theatre on ' Friday, one of the outstanding films )f the year. It tells of a woman ivho first comes to a house in the role of a peddler of kitchen knives, but stays because of her ability to ?ook a dinner, and by her influence sjives new life to a family which is ' m the brink of despair. This leadingrole is taken by Fay Bainter, who has long been well known on the stage and who has proved herself to a far wider audience in her short screen career. There are other equally meritorious performances, however, including those of Claude Rains and Jackie Cooper in roles which are utterly unlike those to which they have been accustomed. The former appears as a small-town schoolmaster and amateur inventor, and the latter as a boy who seems to ruin the only concrete achievement in the whole film- the invention of an iceless icebox—by his stupidity. Other main parts are taken by Bonita Granville, Henry O’Neill and Kay Johnson, all of whom contribute to (he atmosphere of reality which is maintained right up to the moving climax. striped and quilted petunia-shaded taffeta; Cynthia Rawson, powder blue taffeta; E.
