MOTOR-CYCLISTS DEAD

DRIVER AND PILLION RIDER STRUCK TELEGRAPH POLE ACCIDENT AT CARTERTON t Ptr Presn Association. I CARTERTON, June 19. A motor cyclist was killed instantaneously and his pillion rider died later in hospital as a result ot striking a concrete telegraph post in Belvedere Road, Carterton, aooul 10 o'clock on Saturday night. The victims wore: - Eric William Renner, aged 21, mechanic, son of Mr. and Mrs. J. Renner, 110 Renall Street, Masterton. William Rotten, aged 18, mechanic, only son of Mr. ana Mrs. T. Fatten, Wood Street, Greytown. Mr. Renner received a broken neck and a broken leg. His companion suffered severe head injuries. Both were examined by Dr. W. J. Wells, Garterton. Mr. Pollen being taken by an ambulance to the Masterton Puolic Hospital, where he died at 9 o’clock yesterday morning. Both voung men were keen motor cyclists and during the afternoon had been competing at. a motor-cycle sports contest at I* eatherston, where, il is understood. Mr. Renner won a prize for hill-climbing. Al the time of the accident Mr. Renner was riding the motor-cycle which belonged to his companion. It appears that they were going along Belvedere Road, where Mr. Renner was living, and got into some soft earth, striking the telegraph post before they could get on to a better surface. No one saw the accident, but the crash was heard some distance away. Separate inquests were opened m Masterton and Carterton and, after evidence of identification had been taken, were adjourned sine die.
