OHAKEA INSTITUTE

APRIL MEETING The president, Mrs. W. Robinson, presided over a good attendance at the monthly meeting of the Ohakea Women’s Institute. The meeting opened with the singing of “The Ode to Friendship.” Miss Audrey Capstick was proposed as a new junior member. Competitions for next month are a sugar bag cushion cover and plain scones. After the business had been completed, Mrs. H. Palmer gave a very interesting travel talk on a trip to England and Miss N. Capstick spoke

on her recent trip to the South Island. The remaining part of the afternoon was spent in community singing, games and competitions, which were much enjoyed by all. It was decided that as many of the members as possible would go into Feildipg on Friday to have a lecture on drama. There is to be a card party and dance held early next month. The competition for the month was a miniature garden, the winners being: Seniors, Mrs. J. Capstick 1, Mrs. S. Klatt 2. Juniors: Miss J. Murray 1, Miss N. Capstick 2. For the best bloom in the garden, Mrs. A. Matthews was first, Mrs. B. Frecklington second and for the junior class Miss M. Tremain first and Miss N. Capstick second. Mrs. J. Murray proved the winner of a parcel game. Apologies for absence were received from Mrs. Frecklington and Mrs. J. Ellery. The meeting closed with the National Anthem.
